Get found · SEO and AI visibility

Where to start: a four-week plan

Getting found on Google and named by AI assistants isn't one trick. It's a short list of things done in the right order: measure, answer the questions buyers ask, get mentioned elsewhere, and keep measuring. Here's the order, and how GroundReach walks you through it.

Week 1

See where you stand

Before changing anything, measure. Most of this week is free.

  1. Check your website

Crawl it for broken links, missing titles and descriptions, slow pages, and whether AI search crawlers (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Google) are allowed in by robots.txt.
  2. Fix the serious issues first

Pages search engines and AI assistants can't read or don't trust won't be shown or quoted, however good the content is.
  3. Connect Google Search Console

It shows what people already search to find you, and which pages are close to the first page of Google.
  4. Write down your buyers' questions

The five to ten questions your customers ask ChatGPT or Google before they buy. Everything in AI visibility is measured against them.
  5. Ask the AI assistants

Put those questions to ChatGPT, Gemini and others, several times each, and count how often they name you and who they name instead.
  6. Track your keywords

Pick the searches that matter and record where you rank on Google next to your competitors, so you can see change later.

Week 2

Answer the questions

Search engines rank, and AI assistants quote, pages that answer a question directly.

  1. Answer each buyer question on your site

A heading in the words people use, a short direct answer underneath (40 to 60 words), then the detail. Questions your site doesn't answer are your first pages to write.
  2. Write from a brief

Look at what the current top results cover, how long they are and what people also ask, then write the page that's more useful.
  3. Find your keyword gaps

The searches your competitors rank for and you don't are your next pages.

Week 3

Get mentioned elsewhere

AI assistants lean heavily on what other sites say about you. This is the strongest lever for AI answers.

  1. See who links to you, and to your competitors

Sites that mention competitors but not you are your outreach list: directories, comparison articles, industry blogs, podcasts.
  2. Set up your profiles and listings

The same business name, address and links everywhere: Google Business Profile, Bing Places, LinkedIn, industry directories and review sites, so assistants can tell who you are.
  3. Log every mention you earn

Keep a list of the articles, listings and reviews that name you, and check whether AI assistants start quoting them.

Week 4

Keep measuring

SEO and AI visibility move over weeks, not days. Measure the same way every week.

  1. Re-check every week

Rankings, links and AI mentions, measured the same way, so a change is real and not noise.
  2. See which fixes worked

Compare the four weeks after each fix with the four weeks before, and do more of what moved.

How GroundReach walks you through it

In GroundReach, this plan is the Get found page. Each step ticks itself off when GroundReach sees it done: the site crawled, the questions asked, the keywords tracked. The next step is always at the top, with one button that takes you there. Fixes become cards with how-to steps for your website platform, or a draft GroundReach writes for you to approve.

GroundReach can't promise rankings or that an AI assistant will name you, and no one honestly can. It shows you where you stand, what to fix first, and whether each fix worked.

Questions about getting found

Where do I start with SEO and AI visibility?

Start by measuring: check your website for technical problems, write down the questions your buyers ask, see how often AI assistants name you today, and record where you rank on Google. Then fix the serious site issues before writing anything new.

How do I get my business mentioned by ChatGPT?

Answer your buyers' questions clearly on your own site, allow AI search crawlers in robots.txt, and get mentioned on other trusted sites such as directories, comparison articles and review sites. No one can guarantee a mention; you can measure it and improve the odds.

How long does it take to see results?

Technical fixes can show within weeks. New pages and new mentions usually take one to three months to move rankings and AI answers, which is why it pays to measure the same way every week.

Is SEO different from AI visibility (AEO)?

They overlap. SEO is about ranking in search results; AI visibility, or answer engine optimisation, is about being named in the answers assistants write. Clear answers on your site and mentions on other sites help both.
